i have a dell inspiron | E150. i already have downloaded things to make my computer run faster such as avast antivirus, ccleaner, spyware doctor, spybot search and destroy, avg free, auslogics defragger, and zone alarm firewall. yet i still run into random ANNOYING problems.
like right now’s problem:
sometimes when im on the internet no matter WHAT site im on sometimes it wont let me either minimize [like the buttons there but its frozen so i cant click it] or i cant click on ANY link. [again its there but not clickable] and then sometimes it works.

BOTTOM LINE:
i want my computer to run as new as possible. i dont want to do a wipe drive bc i have my internet connection downloaded where it picks up other signals from nearby computers and i connect there. but i dont have the cd to reinstall that and wipedrive had deleted it in the past on another computer. its INTEL proset/wireless or something. what should i do??

ive already deleted unused programs.
CORRECTION:
i have a dell inspiron | E1505

not E150

Wireless signal isn't detected by two laptops!?

Ok, this is a rather confusing and possibly complex problem. I recently bought a new router in Japan, a PCi MZK-WG300FF14 (Final Fantasy 14 router… it was the cheapest lol) It is a regular router, four wired hook ups and wireless 300mbps. However, while I can set up, detect, and connect to the wireless with my Ps3 and iPod Touch for some reason my laptops do NOT detect the signal! I’ve tried everything I can possibly think of. There seems to be no limit for the connections that is causing a problem, I thought maybe it was the security settings but Zone Alarm and the basic firewall don’t seem to be a problem and I’ve turned them off. (Security is set to WPA)

I’m going nuts here, I’ve been trying for a week to get this working and I’m running out of ideas. What on earth is the issue? (I DO know how to turn on and off my wireless card on my computer, that isn’t the issue. I can connect to the neighbor’s wireless no problem, but I can’t even detect my router’s.)

Huge points to anyone who actually can help me solve this nightmare.
Laptop is relatively new, two years ago. Hiiiiighly unlikely that is a problem. Trying to reset it with the reset button but that doesn’t seem to work. I’ve unplugged and replugged it countless times though.

Of course it is broadcasted, I connected to two other devices I mentioned in the original post. Ipod touch and PS3

How do I fix my random Gunz spike?

I use a linksys Wireless router [However the computer in question uses wired Ethernet] and I have port forwarding correctly enabled with the static IP and whatnot. I also use Zone Alarm pro as my firewall with max privileges to Gunz.exe. I know the port forwarding is working properly because I see pings in the low 30s.

My problem is every few minutes my connection will almost completely drop for about 5-10 seconds, completely disrupting my flo and getting me kicked out of every game. I really see no reason for this to happen except for my computer to piss me off.

Ive tried looking on my own and resetting my router, same result, any help?

slow internet connection?

Hey my internet has been really slow. When i click on mozilla firefox it takes forever to open and sometimes when i try opening it, it says to try refreshing the page or making sure i’m hooked up to the internet. So a lot of the time my computer won’t even go onto the internet. I am on a wireless connection. My router is a 2 Wire 1701HG Gateway. My computer says its hooked up to the internet. It says Speed: 11.0 Mbps — Signal Strength: Very good —- Status: Connected
I have norton antivirus 2006 installed and Zone Alarm. I ran tests and no viruses or spyware came up. I also used CCleaner which cleaned out my registry and stuff. I have deleted some things on MSconfig which deleted some things on start up.
Processor: AMD Athlon Processor 1.25 GHz, 768 MV of RAM. So yea i have ran out of things to do please help.
i have DSL and it’s wireless and i’m using D-Link Air DWL-520 Wireless PCI Adapter(rev.E) ….. is that enough? If not what other information do you need?

I understand that when a foreign address(another computer) has established a connection with one of my open ports, it is possible that they are trying to gain access to my information, but is this always the case? I am connected to a wireless network at this coffee shop and I did a netstat -ano to check my connections out and I noticed about 8 different foreign addresses that are established to my computer, but most of them have the same PID number. My friend is on his computer right next to me, so I am pretty sure one of these foreign addresses is his computer, but I am not worried about him. I am worried if these other established connections are threats or not? If there are other people in this coffeeshop connected to the same wireless network, will I be establishing connections on their end by default? I have Zone alarm running, so it would be strange if I had a few hackers that got passed that. Aside from netstat, is there a way to verify if these established connections are dangerous or not? I am a beginner and only recently started studying this stuff. Any computer geniuses on here that can tell me what all this means?
Well I have made sure that all of these have been disabled but I am directly connected to his computer via router so the jerk might be using a program like wireshark to collect data from my computer e.g. Skype user name, email address, etc.

Newbie installing Linux on a Acer Aspire 5610z?

I’m seriously sick of Windows, especially after the latest round of updates killed my internet connection. That’s just one problem among many… so I’m done.

I have never installed nor used Linux before, but I hear it’s better and safer than Windows. I have an Acer laptop I want to install it on, but I have some questions first.

What’s the easiest (and preferably smallest) version to get? I know that no version is exactly ‘easy’, but I’ve only ever used Windows, so the most simple one is probably best for me.

Obviously I’ve never installed something like this before, so can anyone tell me what all to expect or do? Like if certain drivers don’t work, how do I fix it? I’ve fixed drivers before, but it was always with the Windows disks that came with the comp….. does Linux run okay with most drivers and whatnot?

I know I can get drivers from acer.com, but the ones for my comp say Windows under the OS title…. so will downloading those and installing them do anything at all if Linux couldn’t run them in the first place?

Also, do you need to run a firewall and anti-virus on Linux? I’ve read conflicting answers on other websites, so I have no idea. Would Zone Alarm or AVG even work on Linux? What about other windows only programs? Is there a free program to make them work on Linux?

If, in the end, I completely mess up the comp (or simply can’t get used to Linux) can I reinstall Vista and have the computer as it was before I messed around with it? I know about the live CD’s for trying things out, but knowing my luck everything will run fine until it’s actually installed.

Sadly that’s happened to me before with other things, so I can’t rule it out lol

My laptop:
Aspire 5610-2762
CPU : Pentium M T2080 (1.73GHz / 1M)
LCD : 15.4" WXGA Acer CrystalBrite
MEMORY : 2GB DDR2
HDD : 160GB
ODD : DVD Super Multi Double Layer
Modem : 56K
LAN : 10/100 Base T
Wireless LAN : 802.11b/g
Softload : Windows Vista Home Premium

Any and all help is appreciated… and feel free to talk to me as if I’m a 3 year old, lol that’s probably the best way for me to understand any of this ;o)

Port 0 on my computer keeps getting pinged. Zone alarm says the IP address is 192.168.1.1 which is the default for the linksys wireless G I am using. I have been using the router for months and this has never happened until this morning and now it has happened at least 15 to 20 times. Does anyone know what would cause this or why? The router is shared with one other person/computer and we are set up in a network. Could this be spywear or is the router just acting up? This got anoying so I pulled the plug on my home computers network conection and will deal with it when I get home.

Today my laptop automatically downloaded a windows update. After restarting, my wireless internet did not work properly. It would connect to my network, and send packets, but packets were not received. (Out of 80 it received 12). I uninstalled the update, and my internet worked again. I did this twice to be sure that the update was the problem. I played around with windows firewall, zone alarm, and tried resetting my modem and repairing my internet connection with no success.

Is anyone else having the same issue? Anyone know how to install the update and still be able to use wireless internet?
I forgot to add – I’m running Windows XP SP2

Help with choosing FREE Firewall?

Hi, I have a Windows xp sp2 I use wireless connection, I have Norton Antivirus, which has an inbound firewall but I’ve been told that I should install a personal firewall

I tried last year Comodo Firewall, but I didnt like it, because everytime you want to do something you get popups all the time and stuff, and norton kept blocking intrusions while Comodo didnt notice anything..

I’ve heard about sunbelt and zone alarm, which one should I download ? And why ?
Thank you.

PS: zone alarm is free right?
EDIT: I just installed sunbelt, and it’s not FREE ! It’s just a 30 days trial..
